EXCLUSIVE: Visiting Trump delegation receives hand-delivered letter, asking for help with Starmer

Will beleaguered PM now face call for U-turns on Chagos giveaway and Palestine recognition?

Pressure mounts on PM to reverse policies, as US President is invited to use opportunity of State Visit

In the same way that Sir Keir was apparently given ‘new information’ on Lord Peter Mandelson, enabling the PM to go from backing him to sacking him within the space of 24 hours, so President Trump now has new information to apply pressure on the embattled PM to U-turn on two major policies of even more interest to the White House.

Our summary effectively destroyed his legal case, which was the basis and reason for the entire Treaty.

Trump now has ‘Get Out of Jail’ card for Starmer, to let PM delay recognition of Palestine without loss of face

Presidential team advised on two issues that beleaguered Sir Keir would rather not talk about

An advance party of the President’s entourage arriving in the UK for a state visit tomorrow has been provided with ammunition to pressure an already-weakened Prime Minister into U-turns. Led by Stand for Our Sovereignty and backed by Brexit Facts4EU and the Campaign for an Independent Britain, the private letter appeals to the President on two issues on which both countries’ interests are aligned.

They are, however, issues which the PM would rather were not mentioned at all while President Trump is the His Majesty the King’s guest at Windsor Castle.

The first of two issues at stake is the ‘Chagos surrender Bill’, which has a direct effect not only on UK security but also on that of the United States. The President has been alerted to the ‘killer clause’ which was revealed by Stand for Our Sovereignty and Brexit Facts4EU on Friday, and covered by GB News on Saturday here.

The second issue is the intention of Sir Keir Starmer to recognise the state of Palestine at the UN General Assembly in New York next week. We start with Chagos, however, as this follows directly from the Commons debate last week.

1. “President Trump is our last hope to save a major UK sovereignty giveaway,” says SOS Chairman

In the last week GB News has covered the major new developments contained in our three-part report to try to stop Sir Keir Starmer and his government from giving up the strategically-vital UK sovereign territory of the Chagos Archipelago in the Indian Ocean, containing the military base of Diego Garcia.

This story began last week with the publication of a letter provided to President Trump and signed by over 40 Parliamentarians and influential figures. Following this, on Friday we published the revelation during the debate in the Commons of a ‘killer clause’ in the Bill that will allow Sir Keir to be able to do whatever he likes with his widely-panned Treaty surrendering the Chagos Islands to Mauritius and its allies: China, Russia and Iran.

Within weeks of the Treaty being ratified, the Mauritians could insist on Diego Garcia and its accompanying islands becoming a nuclear-free zone under the Pelindaba Treaty to which they are full signatories, with Sir Keir agreeing this without having to go back to Parliament for approval. This makes the facility semi-impotent from the U.S. point of view, given the presence of its stealth bombers based there. At the same time, the deepwater port at Diego Garcia could no longer be used by both the UK and U.S. fleets of nuclear-armed submarines.

The ”new information” explanation could be used by President Trump

Last week saw Sir Keir Starmer sacking Lord Mandelson, His Majesty’s Ambassador to the United States, within 24 hours of the PM’s appearance at PMQs on Wednesday. The public was told this was as a result of Sir Keir being made aware of ‘new information’ regarding the involvement of Lord Mandelson with the disgraced Jeffrey Epstein.

“Keir Starmer has been rumbled. It’s clear he is preparing to surrender British and US security without proper parliamentary oversight – a reckless move that endangers our alliance with the United States.

“Just as he was forced into a u-turn over his ill-judged Mandelson appointment, Starmer must now pause and rethink.

“To press ahead with the Chagos surrender would trample on sovereignty, destroy Britain’s credibility with our most important ally, and create lasting damage to our foreign policy.”

The Rt Hon David Jones, former Brexit Minister, now with Reform UK, commenting to Stand for Our Sovereignty and Facts4EU.Org, 15 Sept 2025

For the Prime Minister, this would have the added advantage of him being able to take stock of the UK’s rapidly-changing financial situation, following the latest GDP figures released on Friday showing the economy had unexpectedly flatlined in July. This could have serious implications for the financial settlement he has agreed to.

2. Trump could stop or delay Starmer from joining his new ‘best pal’ Macron on Palestinian statehood vote

Next week in New York Sir Keir Starmer is set to recognise the state of Palestine unilaterally on behalf of the United Kingdom. He will do so alongside President Macron of France, who has set no pre-conditions. The particular significance is that two permanent members of the UN Security Council will have voted to recognise a state of Palestine – even though there is no understanding or agreement of what this state or its government consists of.

Below is the key text from the PM’s statement on 29 July 2025.

“I’ve always said we will recognise a Palestinian state as a contribution to a proper peace process, at the moment of maximum impact for the Two State Solution. With that solution now under threat, this is the moment to act.

“So today – as part of this process towards peace I can confirm the UK will recognise the state of Palestine by the United Nations General Assembly in September unless the Israeli government takes substantive steps to end the appalling situation in Gaza, agree to a ceasefire and commit to a long-term, sustainable peace, reviving the prospect of a Two State Solution. And this includes allowing the UN to restart the supply of aid, and making clear there will be no annexations in the West Bank.

“Meanwhile, our message to the terrorists of Hamas is unchanged and unequivocal. They must immediately release all the hostages, sign up to a ceasefire, disarm and accept that they will play no part in the government of Gaza.”

– Statement by The Rt Hon Sir Keir Starmer MP, 29 July 2025

The U.S. is dead set against recognition

In its latest statement released on Friday, the U.S. Mission to the United Nations described its opposition to the resolution in forthright terms, including:

“Yet another misguided and ill-timed publicity stunt”, “this resolution is a gift to Hamas”, “transparently driven by the domestic politics”, an “insult to the victims of October 7”, and “yet another counterproductive gesture that only rewards Hamas, drags out the war, and undercuts the very diplomatic efforts to free the hostages and end the suffering in Gaza”.

Our proposed solution to President Trump

Our proposal to President Trump is very simple. We have drawn his attention to the fact that after stipulating the progress he would like to see being made, Sir Keir has given himself a ‘get out of jail card’ by adding in his statement that:

“We will make an assessment in September on how far the parties have met these steps.”

The President could point out to the PM that Hamas have made no gestures towards the release of further hostages and nor have they given any indication that “they will commit to having no future role in the governance of Gaza,” as a No.10 spokesman insisted at the time of Sir Keir’s statement.

Given that Hamas have made no moves, President Trump could propose that Sir Keir state that insufficient progress has been made and that he votes against the motion or abstains instead.

Conclusion

Naturally we do not think for one moment that the State Department are not fully aware of the detail of the two issues above – Chagos and Palestine – from the British perspective. Nor do we believe they will not have already come to similar conclusions.

The reason for our letter was to bring both issues to the fore. It is a perfect opportunity, with an embattled Prime Minister, for President Trump to exert his considerable influence and achieve two outcomes which are in the national interests of both allies.

Observations

We believe the public are overwhelmingly against the Prime Minister’s obsession with giving away British sovereignty at what seems like every opportunity. Certainly the large YouGov poll conducted recently showed a remarkable level of support for UK sovereignty overall and our three-parter on Chagos last week was very popular.

Stand for Our Sovereignty’s Chairman summed it up using an appropriately American vernacular, saying “We may well be drinking at the last chance saloon this week. If the President were to make it clear that he opposes the current Treaty, then it may just be possible for it to enter a review and discussion stage with our allies, leading to negotiations re-starting with the Mauritians, and who knows what might eventually happen.”

We will publish more on the recognition of a Palestinian state next week, when the UN General Assembly takes place in New York.

Making a difference

Our final observation is this: To those who doubt that our intervention will have made any difference to what will be discussed between the two leaders in the next three days, we would simply say that at least we did something.
