BREXIT REFERENDUM 10th ANNIVERSARY
Part II of a GB NEWS Special Report from Facts4EU

On this day 10 years ago, the nation awoke to – or had stayed up all night waiting for – the result of the largest exercise of democracy in the history of the UK – the EU Referendum.

The Leader of Reform UK, and the man considered to have had the most impact on achieving a Referendum and winning it, Nigel Farage MP, has an exclusive message for GB News and Facts4EU readers.

Nigel Farage MP, Leader of Reform UK, speaks to us on the anniversary of a great victory

“10 years since a political earthquake and we are still feeling the aftershocks.

“The refusal of our political class to accept the result or to implement it marks a shameful period in our history.”

– Nigel Farage MP, 24 Jun 2026

Yesterday’s report provided the background leading up to the event and covered its immediate aftermath under the May and Johnson governments.

Today in Part II of this exclusive two-part Special Report produced for GB News by the teams at Brexit Facts4EU, The Campaign for an Independent Britain, and Stand for Our Sovereignty, we present a celebration of the day we all heard the result.

With the help of some of the key personalities, we also look ahead to what we can expect in:

‘The Brave New Brexit World’

Brexit Betrayals and Brexit Opportunities

Looking at the successes of Brexit, what has not been done, or not done well?

As Big Ben silently struck midnight on 31 December 2020, the UK’s ‘Transition Period’ with the EU ended. The United Kingdom was no longer subject to the strictures of the EU’s laws, directives, rules and regulations, including those of the Single Market, Customs Union, Free Movement, et al.

Or so we thought….

In fact, on 01 January 2021 the vast majority of EU laws remained on the UK statute book, and are still there today. The UK taxpayer continues to contribute to the EU budget each year under Theresa May’s ‘Divorce Bill’, albeit on a diminishing scale. And Northern Ireland continues to be part of the EU to all intents and purposes, but now with no say.

Brexiteers say this is all due to the Referendum result never having been accepted by the bulk of the Establishment. They see betrayals – and opportunities to be grasped in full – whereas Remainer-Rejoiners see Brexit failures.

Some of the key players in Brexit comment exclusively to us

When word got around we were preparing this article and were interested in comments from those who had played a role in Brexit, enthusiasm was high. Naturally we had to have a comment from the man whose name will forever be inextricably linked to Brexit: the Refom UK Leader Nigel Farage.

Nigel Farage MP, Leader, Reform UK, commented to us

“10 years since a political earthquake and we are still feeling the aftershocks.

“The refusal of our political class to accept the result or to implement it marks a shameful period in our history.”

And when speaking to GB News’ Political Editor, he added his thoughts about the current turmoil in Westminster.

“If Andy Burnham says to the country at the next election, ‘I’m going to take you back into the EU’, he will not win a single seat in the north of England. Simple.”

– Nigel Farage MP, Leader, Reform UK, 24 Jun 2026

The Rt Hon Boris Johnson, former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, ex-Foreign Secretary

“What we need is a proper Brexit-believing government to take the next steps – use Brexit freedoms to fix illegal immigration, axe woke nonsense and go for growth. 10 years on let’s believe in Brexit and believe in Britain!”

“Brexit has already delivered notable benefits – from the fastest vaccine roll-out in Europe, to our stronger position on Ukraine, to the recent fall in immigration numbers – all only possible because of Brexit.

“We have cut thousands of tariffs on goods we don’t produce – we don’t grow bananas; why do we need an EU banana tariff? – and are doing things differently in so many ways, from more sensible regulations on pesticides to better rules for animal welfare and AI. Oh yes – and we are saving about £15bn a year in money that would be otherwise squandered by Brussels.”

– Boris Johnson, former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, ex-Foreign Secretary, 24 Jun 2026

The Rt Hon Dame Priti Patel MP, Shadow Foreign Secretary, ex-Home Secretary during Brexit

“The vote to leave the EU was a great liberating moment for Britain and our democracy. Leaving the EU means that we are once again in control of our laws, borders and money and Parliament and Government are accountable to the British people for the decisions being taken that affect them.

“Free from Brussels, we can make our own trade deals with the rest of the world, cut the costs of red tape to support British businesses and be in control of our destiny as a country. Over the next few years, with all the global challenges ahead, Brexit gives us a unique opportunity to navigate these issues and put the British national interest first, which we could never do bound to the EU.”

– Dame Priti Patel MP, Shadow Foreign Secretary, ex-Home Secretary during Brexit, 24 Jan 2025

Baroness Kate Hoey, former Minister and Vote Leave

“10 years ago, the British people voted to make the UK an independent, self-governing country, free from the dictats of the unelected EU commission. Proud to have campaigned for a Leave vote.”

– Baroness Kate Hoey, former Minister, ex-Chair N.I. Select Committee

Reasons for some disappointments

The early negotiations were conducted by Remainers. This helped to entrench the EU’s extreme positions which, although seen by many as highly unreasonable, became ‘settled’ and which were very difficult to change when the pro-Brexit government of Boris Johnson took over.

The result? The UK did not get the ideal, clean, decisive break hoped for, and this has made it easier for Sir Keir Starmer to embark on what is effectively the reversal of Brexit.

Nevertheless, it doesn’t stop us celebrating!

During the 10 years since the EU Referendum, the overwhelming majority of the media’s ‘news’ about Brexit has been negative. For the first five of these years, GB News didn’t exist, which made things even worse for Brexiteers.

In the last two years we have had a government which has held a negative view of the outcome of the vote, culminating in increasing attacks on Brexit from official quarters, including No.10. On the other side there is GB News, which covers all sides of the debate.

“Brexit did deep damage to our economy.”

– The current Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, 01 April 2026

To this day, Rejoiners and the Government still claim Project Fear came true.

It did not, as we shall prove in our next report.

Nothing is said about the enormous uplift in the EU budget, which could send UK contributions towards £30bn per annum and more if we joined again. Nor about the Eurosceptic rise in the EU political class, reflecting many of the feelings of the British people at the time of the Referendum. Less still about several countries’ refusals of the Commission’s plans to re-distribute migrants.

More key players in Brexit comment exclusively to readers of Facts4EU, GB News and Stand for Our Sovereignty

We are grateful to all those who played significant roles in the Brexit saga for sharing their thoughts with us and our readers, on this anniversary of the day we watched the Referendum results come in.

Whilst challenges still lie ahead, on this day all our contributors remain upbeat, and optimistic of yet more progress along the United Kingdom’s long road towards being a fully independent country once again.

Lord Frost, former Chief Negotiator of EU Task Force, ex-Minister

“It’s 10 years since the greatest ever democratic vote for freedom and independence. Ignore the current Rejoin mania. Britain has got used to governing itself again and, when we finally get a leader who wants to do it too, is destined for huge success as a free country. Truly our greatest days lie ahead.”

– Lord Frost, former Chief Negotiator of EU Task Force, ex-Minister, 24 Jun 2026

Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg, former Minister for Brexit Opportunities, ex-Secretary of State

“Brexit was ultimately about democracy. The British people showed confidence in themselves and in their values by rejecting the European bureaucracy. The predicted disasters have not happened while we have saved billions of pounds in membership contributions and increased our global trade. It was the great victory of those who believe in our nation against the ‘managers of decline’.”

– Sir Jacob Rees-Mogg, former Minister for Brexit Opportunities, ex-Secretary of State, 24 Jun 2025

Lord (Peter) Lilley, former Secretary of State for Trade and Industry

“We won the referendum because we won the argument – despite Project Fear backed by the establishment. All of its claims – of higher unemployment, inflation, borrowing and lower growth, wages and a recession – proved spectacularly false. I am proud of the good sense of the British people.”

– Lord (Peter) Lilley, former Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, 25 Jan 2025

A change of Prime Minister doesn’t change the fundamental facts

In our next report we shall reveal the full details of the embarrassing facts for Sir Keir, Andy Burnham, and all other members of the governing party. If Ministers wish to claim that Brexit has done deep economic damage to the economy, it’s only reasonable for them to be able to back these claims with official facts.

Thus far they have been unable to do this.

In our next report we will prove conclusively that their claims are completely false. In five devastating charts we will show the economy is doing better overall since the British people voted to Leave.

Brexit was always about sovereignty first and foremost, not the economy, but readers may be reassured to know that even on the economic level we are better off outside the European Union.

Some more of the key players in Brexit comment exclusively to us

The Rt Hon David Jones, former Brexit Minister

“Brexit was the greatest democratic mandate ever given by the British people to its Parliament and Government.

“Ten years on, our task is not to reopen an argument that has been settled, but to respect the outcome of the referendum by making full use of the freedoms that Brexit restored.”

– David Jones, former Brexit Minister, 24 Jun 2026

The Rt Hon the Lord Redwood, former Single Market Minister, ex-Secretary of State

“Brexit is already saving us a fortune. We are free to decide our own laws, spending and taxes. We would be worse off as an EU colony again.”

– Lord Redwood, former Single Market Minister, ex-Secretary of State, 24 Jun 2025

Lord (Matthew) Elliott, former CEO of Vote Leave

“Brexit was the most consequential political event since Margaret Thatcher’s 1979 election.

“On joining, the EU was 35% of the world economy, and growing fast. Now it’s 15%, and sluggish. For our future prosperity, it was right to leave. Britain made the right choice.”

– Lord (Matthew) Elliott, former CEO of Vote Leave, 22 Jun 2026

Sir Bill Cash, Ex-Chair, European Scrutiny Committee, veteran Maastricht campaigner

“10 years after our great national decision to regain our democratic sovereign law-making in our own elected parliament, let us all combine together again to reject Starmer’s EU Partnership Bill which will re-subjugate us to EU law-making and the European Court.”

– Sir Bill Cash, Ex-Chair, European Scrutiny Committee, veteran Maastricht campaigner, 24 Jun 2026

Finally, Lord Redwood comments to GB News, Facts4EU and Stand for Our Sovereignty readers one last time

For decades Lord Redwood has consistently fought to free the United Kingdom from the EU’s clutches. We give the last word to him.

“We can do so much more if only we elect a government that believes in Brexit. We can have cheaper energy with self-sufficiency in electricity. We need to cast off EU-style carbon and emissions taxes and say No to the carbon border tariff.

“We can grow faster, as we used to before joining the EU, by removing anti-business EU laws. We can save all the money we had to send to the EU, to enjoy lower taxes and lower interest rates from less borrowing. We can have a student scheme that just helps UK students instead of paying far too much for Erasmus which mainly helps EU students. We can liberate our services from inward-looking EU regulation and code law which limits growth and damages competitiveness.”

“We have taken control of our borders and stopped EU freedom of movement. We now need to use these powers to stop migration of large numbers into low-pay jobs and no-pay residence.”

– Lord Redwood, 24 Jun 2026

We are grateful to all those senior individuals above who gave their time to provide readers with their perspectives on Brexit, 10 years after the actual Referendum.

It seems astonishing that a decade has passed since we were witnessing David Dimbleby having to state that the BBC was declaring Leave had won. We still remember the feeling of euphoria. Whilst the intervening years have often been frustrating, nevertheless we are in a celebratory mood today.

Our next major report is one which we believe will be both shocking and important to a great many people. As with the vast majority of our work, it is of course very time-consuming. May we suggest that readers may want to celebrate with us today by supporting us with a donation or membership?

Please, please help us to carry on our vital work in defence of independence, sovereignty, democracy and freedom by donating today to our research engine: Facts4EU.Org or becoming a Member of Stand for Our Sovereignty. Thank you.
