UK Sovereignty in peril as Starmer surrenders to EU – again

As the headline in our affiliate piece a few days ago indicates – “The first time since Brexit the EU has asserted legislative power over the entire UK” – the voters of the United Kingdom now find their sovereign freedoms under threat once again.
What might first appear to be a minor issue over food labelling regulations in Northern Ireland has enormous implications not just for the Province but for the rest of us throughout the United Kingdom.
At the time of writing, one brave MP, the member for Antrim North, Jim Allister KC is preparing to defy the government when the regulation to give yet more sovereignty away to the EU comes up in Parliament on Monday evening.
As soon as the Speaker makes his announcement, Allister will defiantly shout “No!”
As the following report makes clear, the reason for his defiance is obvious and we hope our followers will do all they can to back the Honourable Member by notifying their own MPs of their strong opposition to what is being proposed.
To be clear, this is a regulation made not by our Parliament, but by a foreign political body: the EU.
What is worse, the regulation in question does not even apply to the EU – but is singled out for the United Kingdom – a non-EU country!
This regulation, drafted by Brussels after we left the EU, has the effect of imposing rules on our own internal trade as well as that between mainland Britain and Northern Ireland.
For the first time since Brexit, the EU has reasserted its legislative powers over the United Kingdom.

“This is our first opportunity to put a stake in the ground for sovereignty,” commented Ben Philips, Vice-Chairman of campaign group Stand for Our Sovereignty.
“In the short time we have been formed, our fast-growing membership has been asking what they can do to help to turn the tide against the continual attacks on our sovereignty.”
“Now people have their chance to make their voice heard.”

Let the words of the man himself be our focus and inspiration at this time.
A personal message to you, from Jim Allister KC MP, Leader of the TUV

“The proposal that next week Members of Parliament should vote for an arrangement that requires all parts of the UK to be ready to submit to ‘Not for EU’ labelling requirements, mandated by an EU law made for the UK three years after we had supposedly left, constitutes the most extraordinary validation of the fact that the biggest democratic vote in the history of the United Kingdom still has not been honoured.
The question is whether we are happy to sit back and be walked over by the EU and Remain establishment or whether we were serious about the restoration of our country and its sovereignty.
In this context I warmly welcome the advent of the Stand for Our Sovereignty Campaign and am delighted that they have decided to make this vote a moment of reckoning.”

CONCLUSION
We are pushing this issue as hard as we are because it goes right to the very heart of the issue. Why? Because in a parliamentary democracy, parliament is either sovereign or it is not. There can be no equivocation.
We see here a direct challenge to that authority as once again those cherished freedoms for which 17.4 million voted in good faith end up being undermined.
