Controversial, but based on official data, the cost to cover the non-UK part of the population has shocked people

This 2-Part ‘Immigration Costs Special’ is our most popular so far this year

Our two-part report on the gross cost of mass immigration to the United Kingdom has exploded in popularity. In just 48 hours this report became the most-viewed in the whole of 2026.

These two reports summarised how much the non-UK-born section of the population is costing the country.

The Stand for Our Sovereignty ‘Costs of Immigration Special’

GRAND ANNUAL TOTAL: £ 68.0 BILLION

For the past two weeks Stand for Our Sovereignty (SOS), together with colleagues at The Facts4EU think-tank and The Campaign for an Independent Britain (CIBUK), have diligently combed through all the official financial information from government departments. For what we believe is a media first, we were able to give readers a realistic view of how much mass immigration – both legal and illegal – is costing the country in gross terms on an annual basis.

In Part I on Tuesday, we revealed the amounts now being spent each year by the Home Office, the Ministry of Justice, and the Dept for Education. By interrogating their reports and accounts, as well as dozens of detailed files, we established an interim total of £18.7 billion.

In Part II on Wednesday (09 Sept), we followed up with the amounts being spent by the NHS on healthcare for immigrants and the spend by the Dept for Work and Pensions on the benefits being paid to them, totalling £67.3 billion.

The grand total comes to £86 BILLION – in one year

The total we arrived at is more than the taxpayer is paying for the Government’s first duty – the defence of the Realm – which Andy Burnham now apparently puts as secondary to the need to fund benefits. In response to Leader of HM’s Official Opposition Kemi Badenoch’s question at PMQs on Wednesday, this is what he said:

“I say to the Rt Hon Lady that, yes, we do everything to support our national security, but it cannot come at the expense of social security.

Having strong national security also depends on resilience in our communities. We on the Labour Benches will not be forced to choose between the two…”

– The Rt Hon Andy Burnham MP, PMQs, Wed 09 Sept 2026

The Ministry of Defence’s budget for 2025/6 was £62.0 billion.

Our total gross annual cost for the costs of the non-UK part of the population is nearly 40% more than we give to the MoD.

These two reports are free to all (but sadly not to us)

Readers who missed our two reports, on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, can view them on our news page, or by clicking on the links at the top of this article.

We cannot say they encompass all the costs of the combined effects of mass immigration over many years, nor can we say categorically that every individual departmental total is precise. The reason is because Whitehall departments have notoriously been reluctant to attribute their spending in this way. However, given the acute public interest in this topic we suggest these reports provide a useful backdrop to the debate.

We are not surprised these two reports are our most popular of the year so far. We can only ask readers to support our work by becoming members or by making a one-off donation.

Our work is funded solely by members of the public – which means you! If you don’t help us now, we simply can’t continue to bring such important information to the public.

And if we don’t, who will?

These two reports cost us a great deal of time, effort, expense, and lost income. Please, please help us to carry on our vital work in defence of independence, sovereignty, democracy and freedom by donating today to our research-engine: Facts4EU.Org or becoming a Member of Stand for Our Sovereignty.
