Today your country has been divided, part-taken by a foreign power, with concrete border posts

Why isn’t this a worldwide scandal?

Before thinking “Oh, just a piece on N.I.,” think again – this is about the EU’s treatment of the UK

Today the EU’s annexation of a sovereign part of the UK has literally been set in concrete at a major UK port. Remember the EU constantly talking of the need to prevent ‘a hard border’ in Ireland? Well, they’ve created one, and it doesn’t come much harder than concrete.

This would be ironic if it weren’t so serious for the sovereignty of the United Kingdom.

Before readers consider glossing over this report, thinking: “Oh this is just another piece on Northern Ireland and it doesn’t affect me”, we invite you to think again.  It affects us all. Yes, it contains important news happening in Belfast today, but this report goes further.

When reading what follows, we urge readers to think in the context of a foreign power taking away the sovereignty of the British people, as exercised through the UK Parliament. It has seized control of part of the UK and – quite astonishingly – now made it easier for the rest of the UK to deal with the EU and the rest of the World than with part of its own country.

Statement provided exclusively to Stand for Our Sovereignty, Facts4EU and GB News, by Jim Allister KC MP

“If this is allowed, it means from now until 2027 Northern Ireland is more ‘foreign’ to Great Britain than France, Germany, the Republic of Ireland or any other EU member state.”

Briefly, here is what is happening today

Today the second major set of permanent Border Control Posts (BCPs) dividing the UK in two will become operational in Belfast.  The first was on 28 July at N.I.’s second port of Larne. Today’s events are significant because of the sheer volume of traffic that passes through the port of Belfast.

Even using the so-called ‘green lane’, goods can only move from Great Britain to Northern Ireland as if they are being transported to a foreign country. They need an export number, some international SPS and customs paperwork, and  a compulsory percentage of physical checks, slowing everything up.

  • The EU doesn’t put these obstacles in the way of comparable goods flowing into N.I. from EU member states
  • The EU doesn’t put them in the way of its goods movements flowing into GB from EU member states
  • It ONLY puts these obstacles in the way of GB goods flowing into N.I.

In other words, the EU is interfering in the UK’s single market and Northern Ireland is being treated worse than EU member states when it comes to GB business. There now truly is a ‘hard border’ in Ireland and it has been imposed by the EU.

National law, international law, world treaties – the EU has broken the lot and UK governments haven’t been much better

The EU has broken the Belfast (Good Friday) Agreement, the Windsor Framework, and UN General Assembly Resolution 2625 (“The Declaration on Principles of International Law concerning Friendly Relations and Co-operation among States”) which has been taken into international law by the ICC.

Amongst other transgressions, the UK government has broken the Acts of Union, the Belfast (Good Friday) Agreement, and the Windsor Framework.  Taking just one of these, one of the effects of the Acts of Union 1800 was to create a customs union, defined in Section VI. The EU Withdrawal Act 2020 quietly broke that.  This was confirmed by the High Court of Northern Ireland when it stated it had been “impliedly repealed” by that Act, and this was later reconfirmed by the UK Supreme Court on appeal.

Readers might imagine that breaking the Acts of Union creating our country is a big deal – and they would be right.  The fact that this was done as if ‘by accident’ and had to be confirmed post facto by judges as having been done in an “implied” fashion is shocking in itself.

How this Government is destroying our sovereignty AND our democracy by stealth

Next we come to the current government of Sir Keir Starmer and here things get worse in terms of sovereignty but also for democracy.  A classic example of the latter is the way a specific type of legislation has been used. Jim Allister sums this up perfectly:

“This is found in the growth of UK secondary legislation which is generally regarded as a tool of the executive because it represents law that back-benchers cannot propose, and Parliament cannot amend. It can only engage by means of the ‘nuclear option’ of rejecting the legislation in its entirety after a short debate.”

The last time the Commons took ‘the nuclear option’ was 40+ years ago.  ‘Secondary legislation’ comes in the form of ‘Statutory Instruments’ (SI’s), as we have explained on many occasions. Sir Keir has now used this method many times on the EU/N.I. issue and Jim Allister has put down six ‘Early Day Motions’ already, attempting to get them annulled. For there to have been no debate allowed on such serious issues is wholly undemocratic. Far too much is happening which is bypassing Parliament (and therefore the mainstream media) and part of the reason for this report is to call the Prime Minister out.

Each time, MPs have attempted to have a debate or to have the SI’s quashed, to no avail. These include Rishi Sunak and Kemi Badenoch. On this occasion we would ask readers to write to their MP, asking them to support Jim’s motion: Here is the link for them . [Interesting side note: In the archaic procedures which still exist in Parliament, this motion is called ‘a prayer’ to have an S.I. annulled.]

This particular motion or ‘prayer’ has been signed by nine members from four parties plus an independent. One of the signatories is Richard Tice MP, Deputy Leader of Reform UK.

When did this behaviour ever become acceptable for the British people?

Speaking exclusively to Stand for Our Sovereignty and GB News, Jim Allister KC MP said:

“It is inconceivable that any self-respecting country would allow 27 other states to divide it in two, especially through Border Control Posts and when this has resulted in the humiliating disenfranchisement of 1.9 million of its citizens.”

At what point did we, the British people, lose our belief in right and wrong, the rule of law, and the fundamental principles of sovereignty, democracy and freedoms which have underpinned our great country for centuries?

What if we had taken such a stance in 1938-1939 when the then German leader started annexing territories? What kind of Europe would we be looking at now? (For the avoidance of doubt, we are NOT comparing members of the EU Commission with that dictator. We are merely drawing parallels with the specific issue of one power annexing another country’s territory.)

Never mind an ‘EU Reset’, we require a reset of our own government, says Allister

Here is Jim Allister’s statement to us in full:-

“It is inconceivable that any self-respecting country would allow 27 other states to divide it in two, especially through Border Control Posts and when this has resulted in the humiliating disenfranchisement of 1.9 million of its citizens. That they would do so at exactly the same time as introducing legislation to prevent similar goods movements into GB from the Republic of Ireland, France, Germany, and the rest of the EU, being subject to the same BCP and other requirements until 2027, leaves me completely speechless.

“It suggests GB is more joined to the EU than the rest of the UK and provides eloquent testimony to how things have gone badly wrong. It is, however, exactly the kind of extraordinary action we have come to expect from the current government that plainly does not believe in our country.

“Rather than needing a reset in our relationship with the EU, what we require is a reset in our own government which has completely lost its way.

“In this it is striking that the parliamentary petition calling for an immediate general election that reached the 100,000 debate threshold the beginning of the month, is now standing at over half a million and rising rapidly.”

OBSERVATIONS

Today we hope all our readers in GB and from around the world will appreciate the importance of this particular report.

This truly should be a worldwide scandal. It certainly is a scandal for anyone who believes in UK sovereignty.  As for the bureaucrats in Brussels, democratic governments change and the bureaucrats’ time will come when they will wish they hadn’t behaved so deplorably.

The actions of previous UK governments are disappointing in the extreme but are as nothing compared to the current one led by Sir Keir Starmer.  We are independent and non-partisan, but on this subject we consider their behaviour deplorable, undemocratic, and anti-British.  Stand for Our Sovereignty is actively planning a variety of responses, all of which depend to a significant degree on growing the membership.

We urge all right-minded British people to join us today. We have political and legal backing, but we need funding and that will only come from thousands more of you joining the movement. We will shortly start holding online meetings of the membership, with special guests, and you will be contacted very shortly if you are a Member.

Very much welcomed – in addition to or instead of the above

Membership will of course give you other benefits, which we will be outlining here as soon as possible. If you can’t afford to give us anything to help fund the work, you can still write to tell us you support the campaign here.

Big-hitter who believes in sovereignty and wants to see their donation make a real difference? If you are a potential large donor, then please contact our Chairman here.

All monies are handled by CIBUK, the oldest-established organisation for independence, sovereignty, democracy and freedom in the UK, having been founded in 1969. We trust this will give everyone confidence that their money will be managed properly and spent effectively.
